MELISSA MERTEN, 33 - LULAROE
FASHION RETAILER & TRAINER
WHY I GOT INTO THE BIZ / WHAT INSPIRES ME:
The short version of the long journey goes like this: I have always loved clothes... and people. I earned a degree in Fashion Marketing in hopes of becoming a buyer but was bored by Excel spreadsheets and really good at sales/ developing people. So I worked my way up the corporate ladder of a large youth retail chain. When I fell in love with my husband, my life perspective banged and I couldn't handle the 80 hour work weeks and constant travel. So I quit my job and started over, this time becoming a nurse. Which I still do, and love, but will hopefully not be doing it full time for much longer. After marriage and babies the desire for flexibility has taken over.
A sweet mama friend starting selling LuLaRoe a year before I starred. During that year I watched my business advice bring her twice the amount of income in half the amount of time as I worked. My interest was sparked. Plus the clothes are amazing- comfortable and super cute. So I started selling LuLaRoe in June of 2016, became a trainer in October and am continuing to grow my business in pursuit of no longer being tied to punching in and out of work.
I am inspired by women. I like to say I don't sell clothes, I sell empowerment. I am most fulfilled when I help others see their greatness and become unstoppable in fulfilling their dreams.
